Year 3 Testwood Lakes trip

The children in Year 3 all thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to Testwood Lakes where we were rock detectives and soil scientists.

As rock detectives, we learnt more about the different types of rocks and how they were formed.  We used magnifying glasses to get a good look at them all and we used a scientific key to identify whether rocks were igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic.  We then had a look around to see if we could see how rocks had been used.

As soil scientists, we dug our own soil samples from two different places – the meadow and the woods.  We described each sample and compared them.  We also used an auger to get a deeper sample of soil to see if the soil changed the further down it went.
