Music

Throughout the year the school is invited to participate in several musical events at the Anvil.  The school also holds various music concerts and offers music tuition during the school week.

BAYO Eurovision Concert May 2016

Some of the children took part in the BAYO  Eurovision Concert on Saturday.

John Fuller chose Rosie and Maisie to sing solos in Puppet on a String, which they performed exceptionally well. Freya also sang a solo brilliantly as a member of the Area Junior Choir.

Basingstoke Music Festival March 2016

Several of our woodwind players competed in the Basingstoke Music Festival in March- Harriet, Megan, Saorla, Lucy and Izzy. They all performed very well and were a credit to themselves. Izzy came first and won a cup for the Grade 3 clarinet class – a fabulous achievement.

Music Tuition

Oakley CE Junior School is able to offer music lessons via Hampshire Music Service.  Tuition is given by professional peripatetic teachers to pupils at Oakley CE Junior School for the following instruments:

  • Keyboard
  • Guitar
  • Clarinet
  • Flute
  • Violin
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Cello
  • Recorder **

It is also important to point out that this is a financial commitment for the whole school year and full payment will be required even if your child withdraws from lessons.

The lessons take place during the school day and this does mean that your child may miss part of a curriculum subject.

Instruments and sheet music are to be provided by parents unless agreed otherwise with the school. If you have indicated that you wish to borrow an instrument it is now possible to hire instruments from Hampshire Music Service at a cost from £30 per term.  Please visit http://www3.hants.gov.uk/education/hms/instrument-hire.htm for further information.

Sessions are charged at the following rates (these are reviewed each September)

Fees per Term/Year

Group lesson – £62.00 / £186

** Recorder lessons are charged at £21.50 / £64.50

Although there are 38 potential teaching weeks, it is inevitable that some lessons will be missed. Therefore the charge is based on thirty-three lessons in total over the school year. Invoices are sent out for music lessons each term.
