Gilbert White Trip

The children in Year 4 started off their Rivers topic this term by visiting Gilbert White’s Study Centre in Selborne.

We walked up Selborne Hanger and look out across the village. Whilst we were up there, we discussed what resources there were for the people living there and what the river could be used for.

We also completed fieldwork in the river. We collected measurements that we can use back at school to draw the river’s profile at different points. Rubber ducks helped us to measure the speed of the river at different points. We were able to see where the water flowed fastest and slowest with the help of a fluorescent dye.
